Writing Center
What is the Writing Center?
It's an online service where USU students can get help with assignments at any point during the writing process. The Writing Center is also a room in the Logan, Roosevelt, and Vernal USU campuses for walk-in conferences.
All writing conferences are free and confidential.
What do people do in the Writing Center?
Discussing and revising assignments is a normal part of the writing process. Face-to-face writing conferences usually last about 30 minutes. Peer responders spend even longer on papers for the online service.
Sometimes that means you will need to change words or phrases after a writing conference, and other times re-structure whole paragraphs or pages.
How can writers get the most out of a writing conference?
First, know what your assignment requires. Describe your assignment in detail for the online service, or bring a copy of the assignment sheet to your face-to-face writing conference.
Second, consider where you need the most help and be realistic about the amount of time for revision. Let your peer responder know this information before he or she reviews the paper online or in person.
When can I use the Writing Center?
- Walk-in Conferences: During fall semester 2009, the Roosevelt writing center, located in the east hall of the classroom building, is open for face-to-face appointments Monday through Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The Vernal writing center, room 121 in the "old" building, holds face-to-face conferences on Monday and Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Please come to see us for all your writing needs!
- Online Writing Assistant: Our online writing service is available Monday through Saturday.
Getting advice online is easy and convenient, and you can stay in your pajamas and pink bunny slippers. Just follow the link below, complete the submission form, and then attach your paper as a Word document (.doc or .docx) or as a Rich Text Format document (.rtf). We'll respond within 48 hours if we receive your paper Monday-Friday. (One note of caution: If you send
the paper to us Saturday, we may have your paper back to you as late as Tuesday.)
