English as a Second Language Endorsement
The USU Departments of Elementary and Secondary Education offer an K-12 endorsement which meets the requirements established by the Utah State Office of Education. Since this is exclusively an endorsement, undergraduate and graduate students are required to possess, or be in the process of completing, a teaching certificate. Preservice secondary teachers may also complete the following coursework and clinical and student teaching experiences in order to obtain an ESL teaching minor endorsement. The ESL endorsement and minor enable teachers to provide ESL instruction in stand-alone ESL classes, transitional English classes, as well as sheltered content area classes and mainstream classes where English language learners are enrolled.
