Utah Mathematics Endorsement
The Utah Mathematics Endorsement Project (UMEP) is funded through a Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant under Title II Part B of the NCLB Legislation. UMEP is directed by Jim Cangelosi (Professor of Mathematics and Director of Mathematics and Statistics Education at Utah State University) in collaboration with Jerry Evans (Utah State Office of Education Mathematics Education Specialist) and an advisory board of Utah School District Mathematics Coordinators. Courses are broadcast during the evenings to USU Regional Campuses and Centers via interactive broadcast.
UMEP delivers sequences of university-level mathematics courses specifically designed for Utah teachers so that the teachers learn mathematics that is meaningful to them and will help them teach mathematics more effectively to their students. It also offers educators the opportunity to raise their Utah mathematics teaching endorsement, earn university credit, and progress toward the “highly-qualified in mathematics” designation under provisions of NCLB.
