Practice in the profession of accounting has become more complex, with computerized information and accounting systems becoming an integral part of the various accounting and business functions. University training is essential to prepare for high-level accounting careers in business, government, and public accounting. The objective of the School of Accountancy is to provide high-quality accounting preparation for professional careers in industry, public accounting, and other organizations. This program is devoted to providing basic conceptual accounting, information systems, and business knowledge as a well-rounded foundation for career development. Whether students pursue traditional accounting and financial careers or aspire to be a lawyer, an FBI agent, or an entrepreneur, the accounting degree is widely respected.

Admissions
In order to earn a degree through Regional Campuses and Distance Education, students must be formally admitted to Utah State University. For current undergraduate admissions requirements or other information, or to complete an online application, visit www.usu.edu/admissions/applynow.
Freshman students may be directly admitted into the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business as accounting majors with a 3.6 high school GPA and a 26 composite ACT score. Transfer students with 24 earned post-high school credits may be directly admitted with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. All other students may apply to the Huntsman School of Business upon completion of 24 post-high school credits with a 2.5 cumulative GPA. The School of Accountancy has additional admission requirements. All students, regardless of admission method, must meet all minimum grade and GPA prerequisites for upper division accounting courses. Requirements
To obtain an accounting degree from the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, all departmental and university requirements must be met. For a bachelor’s degree in accounting, students must complete at least 120 credits, including at least 30 credits in accounting and at least 90 credits in nonaccounting courses. At least 12 credits of upper-division accounting courses must be completed through the USU School of Accountancy.
To qualify for graduation as an accounting major, a student must achieve both an accounting and an overall GPA of at least 2.5. All accounting majors are required to complete the general education requirements, including the University Studies Depth Education requirements, as well as the Huntsman School of Business core and the required accounting major courses.

Graduates of the accounting program find employment in a variety of industrial companies, nonbusiness and government agencies, and both large and small public accounting and business advisor firms.

Required courses, other than those required for University Studies (General Education), are listed below. See an advisor with regards to the completion of the other requirements. If the courses are taken in the sequence listed, appropriate course prerequisites will be met. If courses are not taken in sequence as explained above, all Business prerequisites must be completed before 4000-level courses may be taken. To qualify for a bachelor’s degree in accounting, students must also achieve an overall GPA and accounting courses GPA of at least 2.5.
